Black Flag were a foundational force of American hardcore punk, formed in Southern California in the late 1970s by guitarist and mastermind Greg Ginn. With a constantly shifting lineup that included vocalists Keith Morris, Ron Reyes, Dez Cadena, and the iconic Henry Rollins—alongside Chuck Dukowski, Robo, Bill Stevenson, and Kira Roessler—the band pushed punk into darker, heavier, and more confrontational territory. Henry Rollins became legendary for his brutal stage presence, self-discipline, and cathartic rage, while Greg Ginn’s abrasive guitar style and uncompromising control defined Black Flag’s sound and ethos.
